New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan's 2002 tearjerker Devdas released exactly 14 years ago and on Tuesday, the fan-trended hashtag #14YearsOfDevdas received a boost with a tweet from SRK himself.

'Late nights, long shoots,' noted the actor, now 50, adding a thank you note to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with whom SRK now reportedly shares an uncomfortable equation.

Devdas, Mr Bhansali's reimagining of the Bengali novel by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, released on July 12, 2002.

It featured lavish sets, spectacular costumes and a now-legendary dance number featuring actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit, who played Paro and Chandramukhi.

Devdas was screened at the Cannes Film Festival the year it released - it was Aishwarya's first time at Cannes and she's never missed an appearance since.

On Twitter, fan clubs have provided pictures of SRK and Aishwarya at Cannes 14 years ago:

Devdas swept the award season after it released, winning five National Awards and 10 Filmfare trophies.
