Why Sonam Kapoor Hopes Pakistan Will 'Salute Neerja Again'

New Delhi: Actress Sonam Kapoor says she is 'extremely disheartened' that her film Neerja will not release in Pakistan on Friday. The actress, who plays the titular role of the stewardess who died while saving lives on hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986, said Neerja 'saved Pakistani lives' and was awarded by the government for her heroic efforts. The film was banned in Pakistan for allegedly portraying the country 'in poor light.' Sonam, 30, tweeted that she could 'guarantee' that this was not true.

Earlier, in an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Sonam had said, The actress said, "Neerja saved everyone's life. She did not differentiate between an Indian, an American, a Pakistani's life, and that is what a true Indian is. We are the largest democracy and if you know the true definition of a democracy is you will understand what I mean: we are secular, we are the only country in the history of the world that hasn't invaded another country. So all these things put together, she is a true definition of what India stands for."
