Aamir Khan's Tribute To Late Taare Zameen Pe Co-Star Lalitha Lajmi: "We Will Miss You"

She played the role of a chief guest for the intra-school art competition in the film

Aamir Khan has paid his heartwarming tribute to veteran artist Lalitha Lajmi, who died on February 13. She was 90. Lalitha Lajmi, who was the sister of the late actor-filmmaker Guru Dutt, made a cameo appearance in Aamir Khan's film Taare Zameen Par. She played the role of a chief guest for the intra-school art competition. The actor's production house, Aamir Khan Productions, has dropped some behind-the-scenes glimpses from the shooting days on Instagram. In one of the frames, we also get a glimpse of Kiran Rao showing some of the artwork to Lalitha Lajmi. The caption attached to the post read, “Dear Lalita Pachi, the love in you, will always be alive in all those of us you have touched. We will miss you.”

Lalitha Lajmiwas born in Kolkata. Her father was a poet. She was a self-taught artist who was very much interested in classical dance. In her decades-long career, Lalitha Lajmi held a number of exhibitions at international art galleries in Paris, London and the Netherlands.

The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) on Monday shared the news of her demise on Twitter. The statement read, "With Profound grief and sorrow NGMA, Mumbai, Ministry of Culture, Government of India shares the news of the demise of veteran artist and printmaker Smt. Lalitha Lajmi who left for heavenly abode this morning(13.02.2023). Our Deepest Condolences. RIP.”

Remembering the "unparalleled watercolourist”, NGMA added, “Often her works reflect the hidden tensions that exist between men and women, captured in the different roles they play. Yet, her women are not meek individuals, but assertive and individualistic, with a strong autobiographical element.”

The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, in Mumbai, has expressed condolences over the passing away of   Lalitha Lajmi. Sharing a picture of the artwork, the foundation wrote,“We are deeply saddened by the news of artist Lalitha Lajmi's passing. Lajmi was a self-taught artist with a keen interest in classical dance. Her works had an element of melancholy and performance, seen here in her artwork, 'Dance of Life and Death.”

Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par also starred Darsheel Safary, who played the role of Ishaan Awasthi, Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma.
