xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage released in India on Saturday
New Delhi:
"India already breaking records," Vin Diesel wrote in an Instagram post on Monday morning. His new film xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, co-starring Deepika Padukone, released in India on Saturday. Numbers from Box Office India doesn't appear to support his statement, however. Box Office India reports that xXx 3, as the film's title is shortened, made a gross amount of Rs 17.25 crore - that's Rs 15 crore net - from Friday's paid previews and ticket sales over Saturday and Sunday. This is a fraction of the earnings of Bollywood's big films - for instance, Aamir Khan's Dangal made over Rs 40 crore on its first Sunday alone.
Box Office India blames xXx 3's under-performance on two factors - the decision to release the film on a Saturday means it lacked a full weekend, and Sunday's eyeballs were largely occupied watching the first of three India vs England cricket matches. Monday's business is unlikely to compensate for the missed weekend day, Box Office India reports. xXx 3's ticket sales have made marginally more than OK Jaanu, last Friday's Bollywood release, has. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported on Monday that OK Jaanu, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, had made Rs 13.80 crore.
xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage is Deepika Padukone's Hollywood debut and released in India a week ahead of anywhere else. Vin Diesel, was in India last week promoting his film with Deepika, posted this picture of them:
The top earner at the box office is still Aamir Khan's Dangal, which released on December 23 and is still forging ahead. This tweet from Taran Adarsh places Dangal's collection so far at over Rs 370 crore:
xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, directed by DJ Caruso and co-starring Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev, will open globally on Wednesday.
