YashRaj files FIR against BCCI for using songs without license
Mumbai: Noted film maker Yash Chopra's film distribution company Yash Raj Films (YRF) has lodged an FIR against the officials of the ICC, BCCI and MCA for allegedly playing its songs at World Cup matches without permission, police said today.

An FIR was registered by Upendra Jalgaonkar, manager of Novex Communications, in which it was alleged officials of International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) played various songs at all the World Cup matches without procuring licences for doing so despite being told to, senior inspector at Marine Drive police station Z Gharal told PTI.

Novex Communication is the production house's authorised agency which issues licences for use of film songs and  promos at public events.

"Haroon Lorgat (ICC Chief Executive), Dheeraj Malhotra (ICC joint secretary), Ratnakar Shetty (BCCI CAO), Hemant Waingankar and Lalchand Rajput (MCA joint secretaries) were among the officials against whom the complaint was registered under section 63 and 69 of Copyright Act, on Tuesday," the official added.

Songs from films like Band Baaja Baraat and Chakde India, produced by Yashraj Films, were apparently played during the World Cup matches.

In April this year, YRF has sent legal notices to the ICC, BCCI and the MCA over the issue for infringement of copyright.
