New Delhi:
After a five-year break from showbiz, yesteryears' popular item girl-actress Jayshree T. is back. She will be seen as a strong-headed character in Zee TV's new show Dil Se Diya...Vachan.
"I am very excited about this project. I didn't see that it is on the small screen...I just liked the concept, and the medium didn't matter at all," Jayshree told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
Dil Se Diya...Vachan, starting Oct 25, is a story that showcases a positive relationship between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
Jayshree will be playing the role of Ayub Khan's mother and will sport grey strands in the show.
"I liked the role the minute it was narrated to me...I felt it has something challenging for me to do," added the 60-year-old, who says her role is of a very dominating woman, who only does what she likes.
Jayshree was known for her sensuous moves in the 1970s and early 1980s. She danced on songs like Naach meri jaan phataphat and Reshmi ujala hai.
She featured in several films including Chanda aur Bijlee, Jaani Dushman, Shoukeen, Andar Bahar, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani and Ghar Ho To Aisa. Among her last few films were Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke and Chalte Chalte, in which she played cameos.
For those who know her as the glamorous diva of her times, Jayshree says her subtle and old avatar in Dil Se Diya ... Vachan will be like dheere ka jhatka dheere se lage (hit them softly).
"I wear simple cotton sari in the show, my hair is grey, I play a widow in Pune...so the whole look is extremely different from what people have seen me in those days," she added.
Jayshree says the dancing scene in Bollywood has also undergone a drastic change over the years.
"Dance has become very technically advanced these days. It is quite westernised as opposed to our days. The girls have also started wearing more daring and revealing clothes nowadays... but everything changes with time, and it does change for the good."
