New Delhi: Rapper-musician Hirdesh Singh, popularly known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, who made quirky Punjabi-Hindi rap songs, now wants to go regional and rap in local languages.
Songs like Angrezi beat, Dope shop, Brown rang and Achko machko have made the 30-year-old a big name in the music world.
"My target for this year is to sing in regional languages of India," said Singh, who recently rapped in Gujarati in the song Achko machko.
He added: "When I used to sing Punjabi songs, I saw people in Bangalore singing it, loving it, even though they did not understand it. So, I thought why not sing in their language and make things easier for them?"
Singh's music was slammed for being "vulgar". He denies writing anything obscene or socially unacceptable, but accepts that certain things were mismanaged on his part.
"During that particular time I made some mistakes. The first mistake was that my management was weak. What generally big people do, which I did not do, was to have constant communication with the media. Because my management did everything, I was just making music and doing shows. Big people in the industry and media called, but the calls never reached me," he said.
The rapper proudly calls himself a "dreamer" and has now braced himself for all kinds of challenges.
He says that he can't dump those people who have been loyal to him since the beginning of his career. "I know problems will come up and in order to fight them, I am streamlining things. I cannot leave old people (his loyal team members)... but I have asked them to forward all the important calls and messages to me and keep me in the loop."
He became a bigger sensation after entering Bollywood and rapping in movies like Cocktail, Khiladi 786, Race 2 and Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana.
Singh also has a record label by the name of Mafia Mundeer and he plans to launch new artists under it.
