New Delhi:
Yesteryear star Saira Banu seems content to stay away from the arc lights as she turns 68.
The hauntingly beautiful actress, who once scorched the silver screen with her roles in Padosan, Junglee, Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Shagird and Purab Aur Paschim, has been missing from movies for a very long time. Though she is occasionally seen at Bollywood parties, and was last spotted at Esha Deol's wedding, the actress is happy playing full-time home maker to ailing husband Dilip Kumar.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was all praises for her efforts in looking after Dilipsaab."Credit really to Sairaji, who has looked after him so well and still does, with great care and devotion," he had written in his blog.
Saira had herself admitted that though she would love to direct, her priorities have changed and she now prefers to look after her home and family.
Saira Banu made her film debut with Junglee, opposite Shammi Kapoor in 1961. Though the movie did wonders for her career and Saira established herself as a successful actress, it was the Sunil Dutt-Kishore Kumar-Mehmood starrer Padosan (1968), that shot her to fame.
She married legendary actor Dilip Kumar in 1966. Her determined attempts to establish a reputation as an actress with him met with limited success and in 1976, Saira chose to end her film career. What has endured however, is her marriage to Dilip Kumar and they continue to remain Bollywood's golden couple.
