President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday condoled the death of cinema and theatre artiste Zohra Sehgal and said her demise has left a "void in the world of art and creativity which will be difficult to fill". (Also read: Zohra Sehgal, Screen and Stage Legend, Cremated in Delhi. She Was 102 )
In a condolence message to her daughter, Kiran Sehgal, Mr Mukherjee said Ms Sehgal was a veteran actress, theatre artist and TV personality who delighted countless Bollywood and Hollywood film watchers by her "memorable acting" and "unabated energy".
"She will always be remembered for her films like Bhaji On The Beach, Cheeni Kum, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and Saawariya, among others. Her singular contribution to Indian theatre and cinema was recognized through a number of awards, including the Padma Vibhushan, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri," he said.
Conveying heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and Sehgal's countless fans and friends, Mr Mukherjee said: "I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss".
