2012 marks the 100th year of Indian cinema and four noted Bollywood directors are paying a filmy tribute to celebrate the century.
Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee will each make a 20-minute documentary on Bollywood, which churns out a 1000 films every year.
These four films will initially be made separately under the banner of Flying Turtle Films and then be clubbed together as an 80 minute documentary, according to reports.
Zoya Akhtar earlier confirmed to agencies that she is involved in the project, saying: "Yes, I am making a film on 100 years of Indian cinema. It's not a documentary film. It's a fiction film. It's not from my production so I cannot talk about it." Katrina Kaif will reprise her Sheila Ki Jawani role in Zoya's film which will narrate the story of a young boy and his obsession with the song Sheila Ki Jawaani.
Director Anurag Kashyap's film is still untitled but Priyanka Chopra is confirmed to play the lead. Karan Johar and Dibakar Banerjee are yet to start work on their respective films. The first Indian feature film, Raja Harishchandra, made by Dadasaheb Phalke, was released in April 1913, a 100 years ago.
