Los Angeles: Hollywood icon Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband, Prince Frederic Von Anhalt, was rushed to a hospital after he mistakenly glued shut his own eye.

The 66-year-old German born socialite mistakenly picked up a bottle of nail glue thinking they were eye drops and managed to glue one of his eyes shut, reported TMZ online.

The incident occurred at the couple's Beverly Hills mansion and Anhalt was immediately rushed to a local hospital.

There he underwent a surgical procedure to un-stick his eye and was given painkillers for the pain.

A representative for the star said that he is in good spirits and is expected to be released later today.

Von Anhalt's accident comes two months after he was hospitalised for swallowing a bee while sunbathing in his back garden and at the end of a year in which his frail wife has been in and out of hospital.

The 93-year-old actress was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre last month after a doctor visited her at home when she complained about painful swelling in her legs.

And in July, Gabor was taken to the hospital after she fell at home and needed hip replacement surgery.

She was released from the hospital, but soon returned, and was in critical condition due to complications related to the surgery, at which point she asked for a priest to read her last rites.

The actress is now at home and said to be recovering well.
