The premier Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is set to become environment friendly by cutting down on water and power consumption and recycling water and waste within the campus.
"Last year we began a project for water conservation but were not able to complete it. This academic year we plan to complete it. Our focus will be on recycling of water and waste in the campus," IIM-A Director Sameer Baruah told reporters here.
"From this year we intend to reduce the net water consumption and power consumption within the campus, thereby making it more environment-friendly," Baruah said. The institute also plans to plant more trees in its new campus.
With regard to the new batch on IIM-A, Baruah said that there has been a significant increase in the number of girl students in the Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) compared to previous year.
"This year, there are 53 female students in a batch of 334 compared to last year where there were only 17 girl students in the batch of 297.
The IIM-A Director also said that he was satisfied with the expansion of the institute that will now be able to accommodate the additional OBC students.
