After Scotland's first minister for more than eight years, Nicola Sturgeon, announced her resignation at a news conference in Edinburgh, finance secretary Kate Forbes was seen as an outstanding candidate to succeed.

  1. 32-years-old Kate Forbes is the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Economy in the Scottish Government. She is a member of the Scottish National Party and has served as Member of the Scottish Parliament for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch (Scottish Parliament constituency) since 2016 to the present.
