The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued new guidelines for using Aadhaar to access benefits and services while maintaining the utmost safety and confidentiality.

Here are the new Aadhaar usage guidelines published by UIDAI:
  1. Aadhaar-issuing body UIDAI urged residents not to leave their Aadhaar letter, PVC card, or copy unattended.
  2. Residents are advised not to share Aadhaar openly in the public domain, particularly on social media and other public platforms, UIDAI said in a statement.
  3. Holders of Aadhaar should not reveal their Aadhaar OTP (one-time password) to any unauthorised entity, nor should they share their m-Aadhaar PIN with anyone.
  4. Aadhaar is a resident's digital ID, and it works as a single source of online and offline identity verification for residents across the country. Observe the same level of usage hygiene as with any other identity document, including a bank account, PAN, or passport.
  5. Wherever a resident does not wish to share his or her Aadhaar number, UIDAI provides a facility for generating a virtual identifier. UIDAI also provides the facility of Aadhaar locking as well as biometric locking.
