At the age of 93, Richard Morgan is as physically fit as someone half his age.

Richard Morgan, a 93-year-old Irish gentleman, is redefining what it means to age gracefully. Despite taking up rowing only in his 70s, he has become a four-time indoor rowing champion and now amazes scientists with his youthful heart and physique.

Mr Morgan's remarkable fitness journey has landed him as the subject of a groundbreaking study on healthy aging. Researchers are baffled by his 80% muscle mass and heart function, which resemble those of a 40-year-old. This ageless oarsman is an inspiration to us all, proving that it's never too late to embrace an active lifestyle and reap the rewards of physical fitness.

The analysis, which was published in the Journal of Applied Physiology last month, examined his training routine, dietary practices, and overall health.

This study assessed the physiological, performance, nutritional intake, and training characteristics of Mr Morgan. Body composition was assessed via bioelectrical impedance. Oxygen uptake, carbon dioxide production, ventilation, and heart rate were measured at rest and during a 2,000-m time trial on a rowing ergometer.

The former baker mentioned to the Irish Examiner that he hadn't engaged in sports until he started exercising consistently at the age of 73.

"I started from nowhere," Morgan told the Washington Post of his exercise routine. One day he "suddenly realized there was a lot of pleasure in doing this."

The research showed that while exercise won't turn back time, a good fitness routine can help stave off the effects of aging.

Consistency, diverse training, weight workouts, and a high-protein diet form the four fundamental pillars of Mr Morgan's fitness routine.
