A couple of studies presented at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) suggest having pets at home, especially a dog, to avoid kids falling prey to asthma and eczema. It was found that pregnant women who were in contact with pet dogs during pregnancy had babies with reduced risk of eczema; however this immunity protecting effect was seen to have diminished by the time the child turned 10.
Asthma is a condition wherein a person experiences narrowing of airways leading to an inability to breathe properly. A person may also experience other symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath among others. Asthma can be triggered due to a host of factors ranging from pollen allergy, genetic predisposition and air pollution among others.
Jaggery and asthma
While medical intervention becomes necessary in most case of allergies as well as asthma, herbal and natural remedies may go a long way in managing the condition better. Jaggery consumption has often been linked to providing relief to asthmatics. "Jaggery comes laced with anti-allergic properties that help in detoxing and relaxing the respiratory muscles. Just a small piece after your meals will boost your health," shares Shilpa Arora ND, a Delhi-based Nutritionist and Macrobiotic Health Coach.
Always go for the dark coloured jaggery. Those with elevated blood sugar levels or diabetes must consult a medical expert before adding jaggery to their diet. Have a chat with your doctor to know more about natural ways to tackle allergies and asthma and how jaggery can be one of the effective ways.
