Migraine can get severely debilitating. The pain can meddle with your daily routine disabling you from carrying out your everyday activities. While the exact cause of the pain is not known to the medical world, it is characterized as a neurological ailment. Usually, a person who suffers from migraine may also report experiencing physical discomfort in and around the areas close to the site of pain - like temples, eyes, face and even the jaw. A latest study links migraine to a jawbone disorder stating that the frequency of a migraine attack may also influence the severity of a jawbone disorder known as temporomandibular disorder. Some of the previously conducted studies had linked migraine with pain experienced in chewing muscles characterized by difficulty in chewing and tension in the associated joints.
Migraine and Ayurveda
In his book, The Complete Book of Ayurveda Remedies, Ayurveda experts Vasant Lad describes migraine as "frequently occurring when systemic pitta moves into the cardiovascular system, circulates and affects the blood vessels around the brain. The hot, sharp quality of pitta dilates the blood vessels and creates pressure on the nerves, causing this painful condition."
Diet to beat migraine
Ayurveda suggests loading up on a pitta pacifying diet to get rid of migraine. Hot and spicy food items must be avoided. One should include items that have inherent cooling properties. Sour food items and citrus foods should also be avoided.
