Hypertension is one of the leading causes of heart ailments in the world. It is a condition wherein the force in blood arteries remains high for a long period of time. Hypertension is a lifestyle ailment which is directly correlated to a person's lifestyle, diet and body weight. According to the study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, sauna bathing may help in reducing blood pressure. Sauna bathing may lead to an increase in body temperature which may lead to widening of blood vessels. Sweating also leads to lowered blood pressure levels. Sauna may also help in relaxing the body and mind.

A team of experts from the University of Eastern Finland found a 24% drop in blood pressure levels in men who participated in sauna sessions two to three times a week. A 46% reduction in hypertension was reported in men who had a sauna session four to seven times a week.

Besides indulging in regular fitness activity, maintaining a balanced diet is of the utmost importance in order to control high blood pressure. A low-sodium diet is highly recommended with an emphasis on fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts and seeds, cereals. Fried foods, fattening and refined food items along with canned items, condiments, sauces and dips should be avoided. Load up on magnesium, potassium and calcium rich foods and ensure maintaining a healthy weight and cholesterol level. Quit smoking and monitor your alcohol intake. High blood pressure can easily be prevented and even managed well if the above mentioned points are kept in mind.
