Bharatiya Kisan Union suspends dharna till December 13

Ghaziabad: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has suspended its dharna at Dasna toll plaza till December 13 while the district administration has slapped notices on six of its leaders for obstructing routine functioning.

BKU leader Rajbir Singh claimed the decision to suspend the agitation on Thursday night was taken after receiving assurances from the police and district administration.

Sources in the district administration however said no assurances were given.

On a complaint by the company in charge of running the Dasna toll plaza, the Additional District Magistrate served notices on six BKU leaders including Singh for forcibly halting toll collection.

SP (Ghaziabad Rural) Jagdish Sharma and ADM Chunku Ram Patel had On Thursday met the protestors before the announcement was made.

BKU activists had seized control of the toll plaza last Sunday to register their opposition to the road levy on farmers. They were demanding exemption of toll tax to farmers and other labourers who live in a radius of 10-kilometres of toll point.
