Ghaziabad:
An engineering student allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a country-made pistol in Muradnagar, 20 kilometres from here, police said today.
The deceased, identified as Hitesh Kumar Jha (22) of Aligarh, was a third year student in Krishna Institute of Engineering College (KIET).
Jha, who resided in the college hostel for the past three years, went near a temple around mid-night in the college campus and took the extreme step, Superintendent of Police (Rural) M M Beg said, adding, a suicide note has been recovered.
On hearing the gunshots, security guards rushed to the spot and informed the college management authorities, who in turn informed the police.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and Jha's parents were informed about the incident, who reached here this morning.
