Ghaziabad: 80 Polluting Units Sealed

Ghaziabad: As many as 80 industrial units in Ghaziabad have been sealed by the Pollution Control Board in compliance with orders passed by Allahabad High Court following a Public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an advocate, officials said.

According to DM Vimal Kumar Sharma, the crack down on the units involved in denim dyeing, nickel-chrome plating and chemicals came follows an Allahabad High Court order for the sealing of polluting units operating in residential areas Ghaziabad.

The order came on a PIL filed in 2010 by advocate Raj Kumar Kaushik requesting that such units be shut down, added Sharma.

A team headed by a sub-divisional magistrate and comprising police and civic personnel sealed 45 and 35 polluting units, respectively, on Monday and Wednesday. Allahabad High Court had on April 23 passed an order for the sealing of such units and sought a compliance report by August 22, 2015.
