Ghaziabad: Residents demand hanging of constable accused of raping minor

Ghaziabad: Residents today held a protest march and staged a demonstration in front of Modi Nagar police station in Ghaziabad, demanding capital punishment for a police constable and his two friends accused of raping a minor.

The residents demanded that the accused be hanged for the gang-rape of the Class 10 student last month.

"We today staged a protest demanding hanging of all three accused. Residents will not sit silent till they are delivered strict punishment," Mukesh, a resident of Modi Nagar, said.

Police have arrested the accused - an Uttar Pradesh Police constable and his two friends - on a complaint filed by the girl.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that on December 4 when she was returning home from her tuition, her neighbour, Karan, took her to a room in Modipon Colony area where he was joined by his friends Keshav, and Nitin, a constable deployed at the Faizabad Police Line.

The three took turns to rape her, police said, adding that Karan and Keshav are drop-outs of an engineering college.

"Nitin also made a video and threatened her that if she revealed her ordeal to anyone, they would upload it on internet. They continued to rape her on several occasions," said a senior police officer.

Several local politicians from different parties also participated in today's protest march.
