Ghaziabad: Agitated over snapping of a live high-tension electric wire in Ikram nagar colony, locals today held a protest and blocked the Loni-Ghaziabad road.
The residents assembled at the Executive Engineer's office at Roop Nagar colony under Loni Kotwali to lodge their protest.
According to locals, the high tension wire broke and fell around 12.15 pm. The residents of the area felt electric shocks while they touched iron gates, grills and shutters.
Aas Muhammad, a labourer and native of Aligarh came in the vicinity of the live wire and lost consciousness. He was rushed to a nearby nursing home.
Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of electricity department B K Chauhan said that automatic Out Circuit Breaker (OCB) installed at the power house was defective and could not shut down the electric supply even after earthing.
Unsatisfied with the reply, the residents blocked the Loni-Ghaziabad road.
SHO Loni Kotwali Gorakh Nath Yadav said that agitated residents were pacified on the assurance of early removal of old electric lines in the area by the electricity department following which the movement of traffic was restored.
