Ghaziabad: A man who had ordered a cell phone from an online portal on Friday opened the package to find a stone, and filed a case when the company refused to return the money he paid, police said.

The recipient caught the delivery boy red-handed and lodged a complaint with police.

Police said Basant Sharma, who works at a car showroom in Ghaziabad, had ordered a cell phone online on May 11. On Friday, a delivery boy came with the package and asked for the payment prior to the delivery.

"On his request, I made a cash payment of Rs. 1580 and accepted the packet. When the delivery boy Raju Pal was wrapping his articles after collecting cash, I opened the packet and was shocked to see that packet contained a stone instead of the mobile phone. I, immediately, stopped him and demanded my money back," said Mr Sharma.

"The boy refused to return the money and said it is not the policy of the company. He provided me the customer care number and the company executive I talked too also refused to return the money and asked to send a request with account number to which the company would send the refund if the allegations were found true," he added.

"Then I had no option but to report the matter to police and I filed a complaint with the Sihani Gate police," said Mr Sharma.

A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they had arranged a meeting of the victim with a company executive on Monday and if they fail to reach any compromise, a case of cheating would be filed against the company.
