Ghaziabad:
A 23-year-old MBA student working as a sales manager at a mall was on Wednesday set ablaze in Ghaziabad by her sister's brother-in-law for spurning his advances, police said. The woman is in critical condition in hospital.
Zahida Nisha, working at the Westside retail outlet in Pacific Mall, was set on fire by Afroz Khan, 25, in Sanjay Nagar in the morning, police said.
Superintendent of Police (City) Shiv Shankar Yadav said Afroz was absconding.
Zahida was pursuing MBA from a private college.
Zahida lived with her elder sister Mehrul Nisha and brother-in-law Feroz Khan at their house in L-Block in Sanjay Nagar.
Feroz's brother Afroz wanted Zahida to marry him but she turned down the proposal. He kept insisting that she reconsider the proposal.
On Wednesday morning, Afroz entered her room, where she was sleeping, around 6.30 a.m. He bolted the room from inside and after an altercation poured petrol on her and set her on fire.
Zahida was rushed to hospital. A case of attempt to murder was registered against Afroz.
