Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh:
The National Green Tribunal has put on hold construction of a cycle track in Ghaziabad as it would have led to thousands of trees being cut.
Petitioner's lawyer Rajendra Tyagi told news agency IANS that the construction of the cycle track, over 18 kilometres in length, has caused hundreds of trees to be cut and would eventually result in thousands more being cut.
He added that the pollution level in Ghaziabad was already very high.
The court of Justice Swantantra Kumar issued notice to the Ghaziabad Development Authority, divisional forest officer, municipal corporation, and the Uttar Pradesh government and asked them to stop the construction of the cycle track.
