Ghaziabad:
An airline pilot has been arrested after his wife was found hanging from the ceiling fan of their bedroom here after a quarrel between them, police said on Friday. They added that a case of dowry death has been slapped on the pilot.
Captain Deep Chand was arrested from his house in Aditya Garden City in Vasundhara, on a complaint by his brother-in-law Surendra Singh. He was taken to Indirapuram police station.
The pilot's wife, Kajal, 28, was found hanging in her bedroom Thursday morning. The room was locked from inside.
According to police, Kajal had on Wednesday gone to see her nephew in a hospital in Delhi. After her return, she had a quarrel with her husband. An angry Kajal then went into her room and bolted her bedroom from inside.
Deep Chand, meanwhile, informed his parents-in-law that after quarrelling with him, Kajal had bolted the room and was not opening it despite his calls to her to do so. He also informed his elder brother, Ramesh Chand, who lived nearby.
When Kajal did not open the door throughout the night, friends and local residents on Thursday morning informed the police, who broke open a window and found the woman hanging from the ceiling fan.
Kajal's brother alleged Captain Deep Chand had an extra-marital relationship and was addicted to alcohol. He said these were the main reasons for the strife in the couple's marital life, since they were married in early 2009.
"A case under section 304B (Dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the pilot. He has been arrested and investigation is on. Now the pilot has to prove his innocence in the court of law," said the Superintendent of Police (City) J.K. Shahi.
