Retired Air Force officer, wife allegedly assaulted by armed men in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: Armed persons allegedly assaulted a 61-year-old retired Indian Air Force officer and his wife at their residence in Muradnagar area in Ghaziabad and looted Rs 10 lakh on Tuesday, police said.

The victims - Badan Singh and his wife Kamlesh - were sleeping on the terrace of their Gangvihar colony residence, when five armed men scaled the wall of the house early in the morning, said police.

"Accused tied Mr Singh and his wife with ropes and held them hostage at gunpoint. When the couple tried to resist them, one of accused attacked them with a baseball bat," a senior police officer said.

A neighbour - Vijender Sharma - knocked at Mr Singh's door after he heard the couple screaming, which forced the armed men to run away with the money.

When Mr Sharma tried to chase them, they opened fire in the air, said police.

Neighbours rushed the couple to a nearby hospital from where they were referred to Air Force Hospital at Hindon IAF Station in Ghaziabad.

"We have registered a case and are interrogating neighbours and Singh's relatives to get some leads in the case. All accused would be arrested soon," Circle Officer, Ghaziabad, Ranvijay Singh, said.
