Ghaziabad:
Three jewellers were arrested for falsely claiming that a bike gang had robbed them of raw gold and silver bars worth Rs 40 lakh, police said on Friday.
"Deepak, Sanjay and Pankaj had claimed that a bike gang had robbed them of one kg gold and 15 kg silver bars while they were returning from Delhi on July 4," SSP Raghubir Lal said.
The trio had even complained that the police had not lodged a complaint in this regard, he said.
Police, however, recovered the consignment from their jewellery shop in Baraut, the SSP said.
The jewellers were sent to jail on Friday after they were produced before a magistrate, he added.
