Nearly two lakh motorists were booked for various traffic violations across Goa during the last six months, a senior police official said today.
"During the year till June 30, a total of 1,97,518 violators were booked by traffic police for various kinds of violations," Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Vishram Borkar said.
He said a total of 1,160 people were booked for driving under influence of alcohol and 1,146 for over-speeding. As many as 582 were booked for using mobile phone while driving and 892 for dangerous driving.
As many as 2,627 motorists were booked for triple seat riding and 7,349 for having vehicles with tinted glass, he said.
"A total of 1,525 people were booked for using vehicles without number plate and 2,508 for improper number plate."
During the period, 48 minors were fined for driving without licence and 201 for using modified vehicles, the SP said.
A special campaign was undertaken two months ago to book two-wheeler riders driving without helmet, he said.
To highlight the right of pedestrians on zebra crossings, a special drive was undertaken by traffic police from June 15 to June 30, during which 902 motorists were booked for violating the right, the SP said.
