Panaji:
Goa police today rescued an 87-year-old man who was allegedly kept locked inside a room for the last two years by his family members.
Sadanand Vaingankar, resident of St Cruz village near here, was rescued from his own house by a team of officials from the Old Goa Police station this afternoon in the presence of members of NGO Savera.
One of Vaingankar's friends had filed a complaint in this regard.
"One of his friends found him living in pitiable conditions in his own house, locked in a room by his own sons," a senior police officer said.
Mr Vaingankar, who was active in his social circles, suddenly disappeared two years ago, which led to his friends suspecting that something was amiss.
After the rescue, he was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital considering his condition.
"We will register an FIR against concerned persons. The priority was to rescue him and provide medical treatment which we have done," said an official.
