After being informed, Goa Police rushed to the spot, and are trying to ascertain the cause of the blast.
Panaji:
A blast inside a residential apartment at Tonca locality in the wee hours today triggered panic in the area, police said today.
The blast occurred on the second floor of Kamat Complex building following which Fire and Emergency Services were informed about the blast. A Bomb Disposal Squad of Goa Police had also been rushed to the spot. However, the cause of the blast is not known yet.
"Police rushed to the spot after we were informed on a phone call about the blast. We are ascertaining the cause," said Police Inspector Siddhanth Shirodkar.
He said there was no casualty in the incident although there has been some damage to the property.
"A substantial part of the flat has been burnt. Our initial reports suggest that the blast is not due to cylinder explosion," a senior fire officer said.
According to eye witness, locals heard a loud sound in the morning but have no clue of what exactly happened.
Mr Shirodkar said the apartment is owned by one Alice Silveira who lives abroad while his son Jeston is living in it. "Police are questioning him," he added.
