Former Union minister and Congress leader Ramakant Khalap's daughter-in-law is among the six candidates announced by Aam Aadmi Party today for the upcoming Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
With the latest list of six nominees, AAP has so far announced names of 30 candidates for the state polls scheduled to be held next year.
Nomination of London-educated Sraddha Khalap, 33, came as a surprise for many. She will fight from Mapusas seat which is represented by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza.
Interestingly, her father-in-law is vying for a Congress ticket to contest against Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar from Mandrem constituency.
AAP also announced candidature of former international hockey player Lorretta D'Souza, 62, from Vasco seat, currently represented by BJP.
Ms D'Souza, a former Indian Revenue Service officer, had represented India three times at international level.
AAP has fielded activist Godwin Fernandes from crucial Calangute seat, which is being represented by BJP's Michael Lobo. Mr Fernadnes has been running a 'Save Calangute' campaign to make it free of drugs and prostitution.
In Nuvem Assembly constituency, Mariano Godinho will be AAP's candidate. Goa Vikas Party's Fransisco Miccky Pacheco had won this seat in 2012.
In St Cruz Assembly constituency, currently represented by Congress' expelled legislator Atanasio Monserratte, AAP has fielded Joe Gomes.
In St Andre, being represented by BJP's Vishnu Wagh, Rama Kankonkar will fight on AAP ticket. Mr Wagh has been in a Mumbai hospital for over two months.
