Panaji: The Goa Human Rights Commission will tomorrow hear a petition filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues over alleged atrocities against demonstrators demanding proper investigations into the death of priest, Father Bismarque Dias.
Several demonstrators were allegedly baton-charged on November 21 last year when they were protesting in Panaji.
The three-member Commission headed by Justice PK Misra and comprising retired District Judge AD Salkar and JA Keny has already issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to appear before it.
Mr Rodrigues in his complaint drew the attention of the Commission to the alleged police atrocities against peaceful protest by citizens held at Panaji demanding a free, fair and impartial probe into the sudden death of the priest.
The body of Father Dias was found floating in a river on November 6 following which locals feared that he was murdered.
Mr Rodrigues alleged that Goa Police personnel allegedly abused their power and used excessive criminal force and manhandled the protesters without any provocation.
