Panaji: Seven people, six tourists from Rajasthan and a local resident, were injured in a scuffle on a petty issue at famous Calangute beach in Goa on Monday, police said.
Calangute police station in-charge Nolasco Raposo said five locals have been arrested for assaulting the picnickers and damaging their bus.
According to police, the clash started when locals took objection to one of the tourists leaning against a taxi parked near the beach.
They men allegedly assaulted the tourist and and when other members from the group retaliated, more locals joined in to damage the bus and struck six of them with hammers.
"The tourists were college going students from Rajasthan. They came here in their bus on vacation. We have arrested five locals. Also there is a cross complaint being registered on behalf of locals against tourists," Raposo said, adding all the injured are out of danger and some were discharged after first aid.
