New Delhi:
The driver of a Gurgaon-based global business process outsourcing firm has been arrested for allegedly violating Delhi Police's order of dropping a woman employee at her doorsteps if she is returning home at odd hours from work.
The driver, Sunil Kumar, had dropped the company's woman employee on the main road at a deserted place, about a kilometre away from her house in B-Block Amar Colony, in the wee hours of yesterday.
She was spotted walking on the deserted road alone by two constables, who were on patrolling duty in A and B Block of Amar Colony, a senior police official said.
When asked, the woman said she was dropped by the company's cab and she was going home.
The police personnel then chased the vehicle and arrested Kumar, a resident of Indira Colony in Faridabad, for disobeying an official order.
After the Dhaula Kuan rape case in 2011, Delhi Police had issued an order making it mandatory for business process outsourcing firms, corporate and media houses to drop their women employees at their doorsteps at night.
Also, it was made mandatory for the companies to deploy a security guard in the vehicle.
The official said the company was also liable to be punished for violating the order as they had not deployed any security guard in the cab in violation of the prohibitory orders.
Investigation into the case was on and the management's role in defiance of the prohibitory orders was being probed, the official said.
