New Delhi: A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation took over the probe into the murder of seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur, three people have been taken into custody including the prime suspect, Ashok Kumar, a bus conductor, and two members of the school staff.
A three-member team of the central investigation agency which conducted searches at Ryan International School in Gurgaon all morning have left with the three suspects, however, a 12-member forensic team is still in the school premises.
The CBI had taken over the probe yesterday just hours after Pradyuman's father, Varun Thakur threatened to approach the Supreme Court if the agency did not start its investigation by today.
The investigation was so far being handled by the Gurgaon Police. Last week, the police had said a charge sheet had been prepared in the case, and it will be handed over to the CBI.
Pradyuman had been found outside the school toilet on September 8, his throat slit, moments after his father had dropped him off to school. A CCTV camera had captured the Class 2 student crawling out of the toilet and collapsing in a pool of blood.
A bus conductor of the school, Ashok Kumar, was arrested for the murder. The same CCTV footage showed he had been inside at the time. The police say the man has confessed to killing Pradyuman after attempting to sexually assault him.
After Pradyuman's murder, a three-member Special Investigation Team had indicted the school for shocking lapses in security. Not only did bus drivers and conductors share toilet facilities with students, the boundary wall of the school was also broken, which meant outsiders could enter the premises at will, their report had said.
