Couples in Gurgaon bars to prove who they are

Couples in Gurgaon bars to prove who they are
Gurgaon: Pub-going couples here will have to now prove their identity first, police said on Wednesday.

Pub owners will also have to maintain records of couples visiting them and make them face the cameras too. And bars can no more employ women.

Police officials, led by Deputy Commissioner Maheshwar Dayal, issued the new guidelines to club owners at a meeting here on Wednesday.

The new rules follow attacks on women and other trouble linked to the bars that proliferate here.

"We will have to check the identities of the couples coming to the pubs and enter them in computers to keep their records," a pub owner said. "The visitors will also have to face the cameras."

Under the new rule, a lone male visitor cannot have drinks at any pub.

"It is not fair according to law but we are forced to follow the directions of the law enforcement agency," a bar owner said.

He complained that police had also told the bars to replace their bouncers with men hired from recognized security agencies.

A 10-member committee of bar owners has been formed to check the women doing escort duties. Responsibilities of pub runners have also been framed by police.
