Five-year-old dead, 11 others injured in hit-and-run case in Gurgaon
New Delhi: It's an all too familiar story on the roads of the National Capital Region. A five-year-old girl has been killed and 11 others injured when the Maruti Omni they were in, was hit by a speeding Maruti WagonR car on Gurgaon's MG Road. All of them are from one family and were returning to their home in Gurgaon from Lodi Road in Delhi when the accident happened. The four men in the WagonR escaped unhurt and fled the scene.

2 children and 1 woman are said to be critically injured.

Eyewitnesses have reportedly told the police that the occupants in the WagonR were speeding and were in an inebriated condition when the accident happened. The police have found an opened bottle of Whisky in the car.

Some of them recounted to the police how the Omni van flipped over after the impact with the speeding WagonR. The child had died on the spot. The police were then called in who rushed the victims to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

"We reached the spot within two minutes but by the time we got there, they had already fled. They were able to flee because their own car did not sustain any damage," explained Hardeep Singh, the senior police officer from the Sector 29 police station.

The police are looking for the accused.

Speeding cars on the streets of Gurgaon is nothing new. Exactly three months ago, on May 5, a BMW, reportedly racing at over 100 km per hour, collided with a Tata Indigo at the IFFCO Chowk intersection. The car that was hit had five passengers: Kshama Chopra, three months pregnant; her parents and husband; and the car's driver. Kshama and the driver died. Her husband and her parents were hospitalised. 10 days after the accident, the key accused Suraj Sherawat surrendered but was granted bail.
