Gurgaon: The morning commute in Gurgaon today could be rougher than usual. The police has warned that 50,000 people are expected to attend the premiere of MSG 2, starring controversial religious leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who heads the Dera Sacha Sauda sect and has lakhs of followers. His team said three lakh followers have been invited to the screening at 1 pm even though the premiere is in the evening at 6.
"Please minimise the use of individual cars to keep the roads congestion free," said a traffic advisory, urging commuters to use public transport.
The movie will screen at Leisure Valley Park, a huge public park in the busy commercial hub of Sector 29, crowded with restaurants and near the large malls in the area.
"Avoid the following routes - IFFCO Chowk, Signature Tower, HUSA city center, Westin, Leisure Valley and Power Grid area" said the police note.
MSG: Messenger of God (Part 1) was released in January as a vehicle for Mr Singh, 48, who faces murder charges and is recognised for his garish outfits and bling. Mr Singh wrote and co-directed the film, besides singing and composing its music. Nearly 70,000 people had gathered then in Gurgaon for the premiere, Mr Singh arrived on a Harley Davidson to announce that the event was cancelled after the police said it had been organised without permission.
Leela Samson resigned as head of the national censor board for films after alleging interference by the government when she tried to ban the film. She said the portrayal of Mr Singh as performing miracles, preaching to thousands and beating up gangsters while singing and dancing could spark protests and religious tension.
Mr Singh is derided by mainstream Sikh leaders who believe that he insults and belittles their faith.
He also faces charges in connection with the murder of a journalist in 2002 along with claims of sexually exploiting female followers, allegations he denies.
"Please minimise the use of individual cars to keep the roads congestion free," said a traffic advisory, urging commuters to use public transport.
