Gurgaon: An earthquake warning system was today installed at Haryana Institute of Public Administration here by state Finance and Disaster Management Minister Captain Abhimanyu.
The 'Onsite Early Earthquake Warning System' can warn about an earthquake, with a frequency of 5 or more on the Richter Scale, 30 seconds prior to its occurrence.
Abhimanyu said such a system was crucial for the 'Millennium City' as being a global city it must "confirm to the international standard of safety, be it earthquake or floods."
"We are in seismic zone-4 with hundreds of multi-storeys and high rise apartments. Any conscious society would like to take measures to avoid any kind of threat to life. This technology is an answer to it," he said.
