Chandigarh: Traffic policemen in Gurgaon will have an extra eye on vehicular movements in the form of body-worn video cameras, which are used by police force in many countries.
The traffic police personnel in Haryana's industrial city will soon be seen wearing these video cameras as the state government has decided to equip them with modern equipment.
They will be trained on how to use these cameras and its application software, a police department spokesperson said here today.
He said these are small and rugged video cameras which will be attached to policemen's uniform. These cameras have been imported by the police department from the United Kingdom with the support of Corporate Social Responsibility of Honda Scooter and Motorcycles, India, he said.
"These video cameras have powerful and easy to use evidence management software. It has comprehensive software application to manage and track the deployment of the camera and secure the digital video evidence.
"It provides full audio trail and digital fingerprint of the video using Serial Hash Algorithm that can, if needed, be presented in a court of law and to generate detailed reports that would be used by the police," the spokesperson said.
He said the video cameras have two inch front facing coloured screen and people can clearly see that their actions are being recorded.
Fifteen such cameras have been issued to Gurgaon traffic policemen by Haryana DGP KP Singh.
These cameras will help in improving road safety and compliance of traffic regulations, documenting evidence, preventing and resolving complaints.
This will further improve transparency and help traffic policemen in reviewing the recording on the spot and show traffic violation to people as a part of educating people and raising awareness, the spokesman added.
