Gurgugram Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Virk is now transferred to Rohtak range.
Gurgaon:
Gurugram police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk was transferred today. Sources say the reason was his poor handling of last month's 15-km long traffic jam caused after heavy rains.
The jam, which lasted through evening till the early hours of the next day, had made headlines. Running out of petrol, many people had to ditch their cars. Others trudged home, walking 10 to 15 km, through waterlogged streets.
The Union government had to intervene, sending a team from the National Highway Authority of India to handle the fiasco. This proved to be an embarrassment for the Haryana government.
On Tuesday, the state government issued transfer orders for six IPS officers, including Mr Virk. He would now serve as the Inspector general of Rohtak range in Haryana.
He will be replaced by Inspector General Sandeep Khirwar, a 1995-batch Indian Police Service officer, who was previously posted as the Inspector General security, with additional responsibility of Railways and Commandos, at the Police Headquarters, Panchkula.
