Helmet must for bikers to get petrol from pumps in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Aiming at preventing road accidents, the Gurgaon Police on Thursday issued a notice directing all petrol pump outlets to provide petrol only to those two-wheeler riders who come there wearing helmets.

"Driving without helmet is one of the main causes of death in road accidents. That is why, the police have issued an advisory to all petrol pump owners not to provide petrol to two-wheeler riders who do not wear helmets," Gurgaon Police Commissioner Surjit Singh Deswal said.

Of the 951 people injured last year in road accidents in the district, 461 were two-wheeler riders, he said.

Every year, road accidents kill nearly 1, 40,000 people - the highest in the world - in the country, Deswal said.
