Gurgaon: A seven-year-old walked into school around 8 this morning in his blue uniform. Minutes later, during the assembly prayers, his little body would be found with a deep gash in the throat, in a toilet of the Ryan International School in Gurgaon. The sky-blue shirt dark with blood.
"My son saw his body and is traumatised. I was very worried but the school did not give us much information. We were frantic," said a parent.
The boy was a student of Class 2-A, a bright student. "He was happy this morning," said his father, who dropped him off along with his sister, a Class 6 student.
The father, a quality manager with a private company, just reached home 15 minutes later when he received the call that would shatter his world. "The school called, said he was bleeding heavily and found inside the washroom, reach the hospital and we are also rushing. Before I reached, my boy was dead."
A wooden-handled knife was found next to the body, which was spotted by a school bus driver.
The family had admitted him to this school as it is just a km away from home.
The child's tuition teacher couldn't believe that a child could be killed this brutally. "He was naughty at times just like any seven-year-old, but was obedient and always completed the assignments given to him," he shared.
News of the death travelled through WhatsApp groups and many parents raced back to school not long after dropping their children off.
A murder in school, where every child is supposed to be safe, has shocked educators and parents across Gurgaon and Delhi.
"It is an extremely sad day for all schools," said Abha Sehgal, a former principal of Sanskriti School.
