Chandigarh: The Gurgaon administration on Tuesday banned hookah bars in the entire district, a Haryana government spokesman said.
"District Magistrate P.C. Meena has today (Tuesday) banned hookah bars in the district. He has invoked Section 144 of Cr PC 1973 for this purpose," he said.
The orders issued in Gurgaon said that hookah bars were serving tobacco molasses containing nicotine which is injurious to the health of the people, especially college students and youth.
The ban comes into effect with immediate effect, Meena said.
"Those found violating these orders will be dealt with seriously and strict legal action will be taken against them," he warned.
Gurgaon is adjacent to the national capital, New Delhi.
