In A Flooded Gurgaon, An Auto Driver Helped Out. Here's How.

Gurgaon: Entering or moving around in Gurgaon was a risky proposition today, with roads appearing to dissolve in the heavy rain that began last night.

School children were asked to stay home- but the advisory by local officials was sent after most children had boarded their buses, which added to the confusion instead of curbing it.

An office-goer Vinayak told NDTV, " I have taken a half day from my office in sector 32 as have the other 50 per cent of the people. I have been stuck here for 4 hours."  Sector 32 is  located opposite Medanta, one of the city's best-known hospitals.

Gurgaon is packed with the offices of large companies, many of whom are multi-nationals. Virtually all reported poor attendance today.

On a flooded road, a man was using his bucket to clear the water around a large drain. Abdullah, 36, a migrant from West Bengal who drives an auto for a living, said he couldn't just stand by and watch. "I am doing what I can," he said.

Yesterday's rain was five times what Gurgaon would normally receive in the monsoon, said the met department, adding that it expects less rain till Tuesday, when showers could intensify.
