Gurgaon:
Neither the child nor the woman kicking him knew it, but they were being recorded on camera. The child cowered as the woman struck him repeatedly with her sports shoe. The dish he was washing flew from his hand and clattered to the ground.
A rescue operation initiated by someone who wishes to remain anonymous saw an NGO arrive at the home in Gurgaon where the footage had been recorded.
After the NGO took custody of him, the eight-year-old said that he was a domestic helper whose employers provoked their dog to attack him, when they didn't feel like beating him themselves.
Ishwar Chand Gupta, the head of the family and a garment trader by profession, was arrested briefly on Thursday and then released on bail.
His wife - the woman seen on camera kicking the child - is missing, along with one of her sons (the other was arrested today).
The child is in hospital, being treated for rabies.
