Gurgaon: Hours after a student was dragged into a car from outside a college in Gurgaon near Delhi on Monday, the police said she has been "freed and she is safe."
"The girl was forcibly taken away by three boys. They (girl and the boys) knew each other," Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said.
Later in the evening, the police said the three boys were located and placed under arrest.
The alleged kidnapping, caught on security camera, had sent shockwaves across the national capital region.
The girl was kidnapped from outside the DSD College at around 9:45 am. She was seen struggling and screaming as she was pulled into the car, a white Maruti Swift without a number plate.
In CCTV footage, the car is seen stopping because of traffic at a crowded intersection and its door flings open. The girl is seen fighting to escape but the door shuts and the car speeds off.
"They picked up the girl in a Swift car. The girl was calling for help. There were two persons in the car and the girl was wearing a yellow salwar and with a red dupatta," Rahul Yadav, an eye-witness, told the news agency ANI.
The police said they had received a call at 10:18 am that an unknown girl had been kidnapped near the rear gate of DSD College Gurgaon.
