A man accused of raping his three-year-old daughter at home was arrested from Gurgaon on Friday.
The incident took place on the night of October 28 when his wife left his home after a fight. He was drunk, police officer Shamsher Singh said.
Following the fight, the woman went to her relative's home with younger daughter, a one-year-old. She left the three-year-old old with her father, he said.
The man raped his daughter when he realised that he was left alone with her, Mr Singh said, adding that when the wife returned home the next morning, she found her daughter "unconscious and the bed sheet stained with blood".
The man had left the house by then. Police registered a case based on the woman's complaint, he said.
"The girl was taken to a hospital. Doctors of the hospital confirmed sexual assault after medical checkup. The survivor's condition was critical and hence, she was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital," the officer said.
The man was caught on Friday morning and has been booked under child sexual abuse laws.
The officer said the man is a resident of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh.
